Everybody gets rejected. Leaders look at
rejection as an opportunity to learn. Inside of every rejection is
information that could help you get to a "yes" down the road. Here
is a two-step method for blasting through rejection and making
progress:
1. Acknowledge
Once you get rejected, immediately let them know that you have heard
their rejection. You can quickly acknowledge it by saying..."ok",
"sure" or "I hear what you are saying".
2. Ask a Question
The only way to figure out the reason for the rejection is to dig
in to what has caused it. Immediately ask a question that will get
you more information to work with.
Scenario:
For example, maybe you want to ask someone to the
movies. It might go like this:
"Hi. Would you like to go to the movies with me?"
"No"
"Ok. Would you rather do something else...like take a hike or go
shopping?" Simple...but it
will help you to figure out if the rejection is personal or not.
Maybe they just don't want to go to the movies. Maybe they would
rather do something else. If you don't ask, you might assume that
they don't like you. That's probably not the case. |
