FEAR & THE BRAIN

Adversity is opportunity.

Welcome.

In support of students everywhere, we offer a model and tools for responding to the challenges of this time. For more resources please visit our site at Seeds Training.

Part 1: FIMAGE

Stop worrying about what others think about you. It stops you from getting smarter.

Take a moment to reflect.

Describe what you would do if you had no FIMAGE.

How can we help others to not have FIMAGE around us?

Are there situations or relationships that cause you to have more FIMAGE?

Part 2:  The Pandemic Brain

The brain layers are more relevant than ever.

Things to think about...

What are the indicators that may let you know what mental/emotional state you are in currently?

What state are you finding yourself in most frequently these days?

What emotion affects your intelligence the most?

What are your personal strategies for overcoming fear?

PART 3: JOURNAL

We've partnered with Make Meaningful Work, an organization that helps people to reflect and improve via powerful journaling tools. Download the blank journal and use it to reflect, define areas for improvement and create your next steps.

LEARNING SUMMARY

Every person has a unique trajectory. Our goal is to help ourselves and others to make positive developmental shifts that move our trajectory for long-term benefit. In order to help others shift, we need to be aware of their emotional state and employ tactics to mitigate fear of participation in the learning process. Here are three strategies for creating those positive shifts:

Create Safety

The goal is inclusion. Use lots of enrolling questions and handle the negatives. Be honest with both the opportunities and challenges of this time. When appropriate, share your own emotions and experiences. Being vulnerable and real will help create rapport and connection on a human level.

Work Together

Use Project Based Learning and teaming to create a community approach to learning, This engages peer-to-peer capacities and will offer multiple ways for anyone to participate via large and small groupings.

Engage Creativity

When we are allowed to create, we also feel that we are adding value. People who add value, who help to shape the learning, who contribute to the process are more likely to take ownership for the outcomes. This is exactly where we want to be as learners.
